How a hand goes

  1. Blinds

A button, a small blind and a big blind, just like Hold'em.

  2. The deal

Everyone gets five cards face down. Betting starts left of the big blind.

    Your cards
    • a card face down
    • a card face down
    • a card face down
    • a card face down
    • a card face down
  3. First draw

Throw away as many cards as you like, from none to all five, and get the same number of new ones. Then a round of betting.

  4. Second draw

    Swap again, then bet again.

  5. Third draw

The last swap, then the last round of betting.

  6. Showdown

The lowest hand wins the whole pot.

Before the draw
  • King of diamonds, does not play
  • Seven of clubs
  • Four of hearts
  • Three of spades
  • Three of diamonds, does not play
After the draw
  • Nine of hearts, plays
  • Seven of clubs
  • Four of hearts
  • Three of spades
  • Two of clubs, plays
  • Thrown away
  • New card
Throw the king and one of the pair of threes, and draw two new cards. Keeping all five is called standing pat.
First two rounds
Bets and raises are the small bet.
Last two rounds
Bets and raises are the big bet, twice the size.

Deuce-to-seven: how lows are read

Aces are high
An ace is always the highest card, so it is a bad card here.
Straights and flushes count
They are high hands, so they ruin a low.
Pairs are bad
Any pair loses to any hand with no pair.
No qualifier
The lowest hand wins, whatever it is.
  1. Number one

The best hand in deuce-to-seven: seven high, no pair, no straight, no flush.

    • Seven of hearts
    • Five of diamonds
    • Four of clubs
    • Three of spades
    • Two of hearts
  2. Number two

The next best. Compare from the top card down: 7-6 loses to 7-5.

    • Seven of clubs
    • Six of diamonds
    • Four of hearts
    • Three of spades
    • Two of clubs
  3. Eight low

Any seven low beats any eight low.

    • Eight of spades
    • Six of hearts
    • Four of diamonds
    • Three of clubs
    • Two of diamonds
  4. Not a wheel

The ace is always high here, so this is just ace high: a bad hand.

    • Ace of spades
    • Five of diamonds
    • Four of hearts
    • Three of clubs
    • Two of spades
  5. A straight

Straights count against you. This is a straight, a high hand, so it loses to almost anything.

    • Six of clubs
    • Five of hearts
    • Four of spades
    • Three of diamonds
    • Two of clubs
  6. A flush

Five of one suit is a flush, which also counts against you.

    • Nine of diamonds
    • Seven of diamonds
    • Five of diamonds
    • Three of diamonds
    • Two of diamonds

Who wins

  • Rae

    • Seven of hearts
    • Five of diamonds
    • Four of clubs
    • Three of spades
    • Two of hearts

    7-5-4-3-2

    Wins the pot

  • Gus

    • Eight of clubs
    • Six of diamonds
    • Four of hearts
    • Three of clubs
    • Two of spades

    8-6-4-3-2

A 7 low beats an 8 low. Rae has the best hand in the game.
