How a hand goes

  1. Blinds

A button, a small blind and a big blind.

  2. The deal

Five cards each, face down, then a round of betting.

    Your cards
    • a card face down
    • a card face down
    • a card face down
    • a card face down
    • a card face down
  3. The draw

Throw away any number of cards and get new ones. You only get this one chance.

  4. Last betting round

One more round of betting, then the showdown. Lowest hand wins.

Before the draw
  • King of clubs, does not play
  • Eight of diamonds
  • Six of hearts
  • Four of spades
  • Two of clubs
After the draw
  • Seven of diamonds, plays
  • Eight of diamonds
  • Six of hearts
  • Four of spades
  • Two of clubs
  • Thrown away
  • New card
Throw the king, draw one card. A 7 turns this into an 8 low.

Same low hands as Triple Draw

Hands are read deuce-to-seven: aces are high, straights and flushes count against you, and the best hand is 7-5-4-3-2 of mixed suits. Betting is no limit, so anyone can bet all their chips at any time.

  1. Number one

The best hand in deuce-to-seven: seven high, no pair, no straight, no flush.

    • Seven of hearts
    • Five of diamonds
    • Four of clubs
    • Three of spades
    • Two of hearts
  2. Number two

The next best. Compare from the top card down: 7-6 loses to 7-5.

    • Seven of clubs
    • Six of diamonds
    • Four of hearts
    • Three of spades
    • Two of clubs
  3. Eight low

Any seven low beats any eight low.

    • Eight of spades
    • Six of hearts
    • Four of diamonds
    • Three of clubs
    • Two of diamonds
  4. Not a wheel

The ace is always high here, so this is just ace high: a bad hand.

    • Ace of spades
    • Five of diamonds
    • Four of hearts
    • Three of clubs
    • Two of spades
  5. A straight

Straights count against you. This is a straight, a high hand, so it loses to almost anything.

    • Six of clubs
    • Five of hearts
    • Four of spades
    • Three of diamonds
    • Two of clubs
  6. A flush

Five of one suit is a flush, which also counts against you.

    • Nine of diamonds
    • Seven of diamonds
    • Five of diamonds
    • Three of diamonds
    • Two of diamonds

Who wins

  • Bea

    • Eight of hearts
    • Six of clubs
    • Five of diamonds
    • Three of spades
    • Two of hearts

    8-6-5-3-2

    Wins the pot

  • Hal

    • Nine of clubs
    • Seven of diamonds
    • Four of hearts
    • Three of hearts
    • Two of spades

    9-7-4-3-2

Read the top card first: Bea’s 8 is lower than Hal’s 9, so the rest does not matter.
